Our Story
Hello, I'm John. And it all started with a fire pit, a housewarming party, and one YouTube video.
It was 2017. Bec and I were throwing a party, we had a fire pit in the garden, and I thought homemade marshmallows would be a nice touch. I watched a single video online. That was it. Something clicked — and I haven't really stopped since.
What began as an experiment for friends quickly became an obsession. Bec and I had spent over a decade travelling the world together, eating our way through spice markets, patisseries, street food stalls and Michelin-starred kitchens. Every country we visited had left its mark on how we thought about flavour. And suddenly I had a medium that could hold all of it — something almost nobody was taking seriously, which meant the possibilities were almost entirely unexplored.
I started pushing. What if a marshmallow tasted of Thai Green Curry? Of Eggs on Toast? Of Soy Sauce Butterscotch? The answer, it turned out, was: extraordinary.
I make every ingredient from scratch — including my own vanilla extract. Because I have to, I cannot bring myself to cut corners. When you put the time and effort in doing things properly it always pays off in the final product.
In 2020, I was made redundant. I had a young family, a growing obsession, and a decision to make. I chose changing the world of marshmallow... Forever.
Mallowdramatic launched in 2022. In three years, we've won five Great Taste Awards (with more on the way) — the food industry's most rigorous blind-tasting accolade. We were named Best Confectionery in Yorkshire 2025, with three of the five finalists that year coming from our own range. We've been a Gift of the Year finalist. And we've been approached by some of the UK's most prestigious retailers, whose standards for quality are about as high as they come.
Not bad for a marshmallow.
Today, Mallowdramatic makes up to 27 different handcrafted flavours at any one time — from award-winning classics like Vanilla and Lemon Sherbet, to the kind of creations that make people stop at the stall and say "you're joking." Every single one made by hand, in small batches, in Yorkshire. Every ingredient prepared from scratch. No shortcuts. No compromise.
Just the best marshmallow I know how to make.
